La canzone è dedicata alla mamma di Paul, Mary, morta quando lui aveva 14 anni. "Let it be" significa "Lascia correre" in questo caso, come dire "ogni cosa farà il suo corso" e tutto il testo è incentrato su questa piccola/grande verità, toccando molti argomenti: i momenti difficili che lui ha passato durante la crescita, quando finalmente i popoli troveranno la pace, durante la crescita di una persona (in questo caso sempre Paul), in tutte le varie vicissitudini che possono accadere: ogni cosa farà il suo corso. Questo dimostra che paul non voleva sciogliere i Beatles e non mirava alla gloria personale.
