Cosa racconta la canzone di Mackelmore? Quale è il suo significato?
La canzone racconta come nel precedente album una vita fata di strani acquisti al mercatino dell'usato e dal sapore hipster.
In questa occasione Mack condivide con noi l'acquisto di un motorino dall'aspetto curioso.
Nella prima parte della canzone Mack, coerentemente alla sua figura di risparmiatore hipster, decide di entrare in un negozio di motorini usati e di acquistarne uno. Si rivolge al venditore senza saperne nulla ed esce dal negozio con uno strano motorino a forma di banana per soli ottocento euro.
Come in Thrift Shop, Mack fa gran sfoggio e vanto della sua scelta alternativa economica e anticonsumista. Letteralmente dice "ci cago sopra la ducati [..] dannazione hanno tutti la Bugatti".
Ci sono frecciate verso altri marchi e adirittura ironia attorno al servizio di taxi Uber. Il cantante infatti rivolgendosi alla sua donna "non hai bisogno di Uber e nemmeno di un autobus, hai il tuo uomo taxy su uno scooter".
La canzone continua così con dei riferimenti ai vicini che gli dicono di rallentare e il suo viaggio in centro tra culi e tiramisù.
Il titolo ed il ritornello sono un omaggio alla canzone Downtown di Petula Clark.

Ciò che conta non è il significato come traduzione ma il messaggio che Mack ci lascia con questa canzone. Una canzone che distrugge tutti gli stereotipi del consumismo medio che pretende sempre di più. Più lusso. Più macchine grosse. Più schiavi di questo sistema fatto di consumi. Per essere contenti non conta tanto l'oggetto ma soprattutto lo spirito.

Downtown è una canzone che sa di divertimento scanzonato nel testo, nel ritornello e nella musica. Non voglio vederci molto di più :)

La scampagnata di Mackelmore per il centro della città con un motorino scassato ed un gruppo di amici. Perchè a volte basta poco per divertirsi. Questa canzone mi ha fatto tornare in mente Cesare Cremonini quando cantava con i lunapop di vespe truccate e giri tra i colli. In fondo cambia poco :)

Tengo a sottolineare che nella vita reale Mackelmore usa davvero uno scooter (immagine da instragram).
