"Applause rappresenta la fine della serata dopo uno show, il momento dove c’è una brama di applausi ma anche il vuoto che va diffondendosi sul palco, il performer che sta per sfuggire, l’arte che sta in qualche modo diventando qualcos’altro davanti ai tuoi occhi. Qualcosa di più umano, qualcosa di più onesto"

Questo è ciò che rende Lady Gaga felice. Il suo pubblico. Il fenomeno della cultura pop degli ultmi dieci anni sa che è il suo pubblico a renderla tale. Senza pubblico non c'è questo eroe culturale. Lady Gaga intuisce che è il pubblico dal vivo a riempirla di gioia.
